Charakter:
The peak of the Kreuzjochspitze towers over the end of the Malfontal (Tal; German word for valley). Surely one of the most rewarding peaks for touring skiers in the Arlberg region, with a very favourable ratio between ascent and descent. Its summit is not hard to reach but rather exposed, so you had better not suffer from vertigo.
Talort/Ausgangspunkt:
St. Anton - Rendlbahn - Riffelbahn I
Aufstieg:
Beschreibung:
Leave the slope at the mountain station Riffelbahn 1. Follow in westerly direction and cross the back of a ridge, then diagonally around another rocky ridge and further to the vast slopes of the Rossfall.
Go diagonally to the right. Cross over terraced ground until you reach a small valley, called the Rossfallwinkel.
You should see the summit at the end of the valley. Follow the valley in the middle until you get to the ridge shoulder. Now you'll have to carry the skis over the rocky ridge up to the summit.
Abfahrt:
Ski down from the summit over the back of the ridge. Go in a straight line over the eastern slope that takes you just below the Niederelbe Hütte (Hütte; German word for hut). Keep going out of the valley until you reach the alpine cabins. Follow the path approximately a hundred metres until you get to the first intersection. Take the path to the left and head upwards to the Diasbahn (Bahn; German word for train, tram, cableway etc.). Take your skis off and walk half an hour along the path until you reach the slopes of the Kappler ski region. Cross the slopes diagonally down to a four-person chairlift, where you can purchase a one-way ticket. At the exit go down diagonally to the right side until you reach a chairlift that ends at the Lattejoch. Keep descending along the beautiful north-western slopes into the hinteres Malfontal and out of the valley until Pettneu.
